Metro plans to build new bus facility - Phoenix Business Journal:

The facility will housee 114 Metro buses, but if the land is fullyu developed, up to 250 busex will be able tolive there. The new bus expected to be ready as earlyyas 2012, will be built at a site known as D.C. Metro wants the facility to meet environmental standards that woulds enable it to receive a Silvere rating underthe U.S. Green Buildingb Council’s program for Leadership in Energy andEnvironmentap Design. The new facility will replace the Southeastern bus which was soldfor $69.25 millionh and vacated last year because of its closeness to Nationals Park. The land at D.C. situated at Shepherd Parkway and Blue Plains was appraisedat $8.05 million. The sale's $6.
45 millio price tag represents the appraisal value minusw the additional operating costsof $1.6 millio incurred by Metro for movinh the buses. Buses that had been running out of the Southeasterb bus garage have been dispersesd to other garages in the region at an additiona loperating cost. Until the new facility is the additional operating costs for the busexs will be fundedfrom Metro’s operating reservwe account, which was created from the proceedes of the Southeastern bus garage sale. The final sale of propert y must first be approved bythe D.C. Council, whichh will consider it at a June2 meeting.
