Texas economy faring better in economic storm - Houston Business Journal:

The state will experience below-averagde economic growth in 2008, but it will stil l outpace the nation, economist Fiona Sigallaa said in an articletitled "Texas Finds Cover From U.S. Economic Job growth in Texas should run near 2 percen tin 2008. "A Texas recession isn't in the forecast," Sigalla "A relatively low cost of livin g continues to attract firms and residents tothe state, and an economy that is more globally integrated than in other states boosts demand for Texas products and services.
" Texas is also one of the few statees that benefits from high energy prices, Sigalla said, plus, construction doesn't appear to be too far ahead of Business economist D'Ann Petersen wrote in the article, "Ho t Housing Market Catching Cold in that a weakening Texas housing market stilo remains healthier than the national average. "In the longer Texas' location and cost advantages, fast-growing populatio and relatively buoyant economy putthe state'se housing industry in a strong position to responfd when demand turns the corner," Peterse n said, adding that tighter inventories shoulfd shield the Texas housing market from large price decline found in other areasw of the country.
