Kroc Center seeking $3.9M in public funds - Pittsburgh Business Times:

The goal is to raise $3.9 milliojn for the facility located just south of Centrap onEast Parkway. Once the money is raised, construction on the 15-acre, 100,000-square-foort facility can begin. The campaign has alreadgy raised morethan $21. million. Once the funding is raised, the centerd will receive a $50 million gift from the Kroc Trust, whicjh was created by McDonald’s Corp. founder Ray Kroc and his wife, A gift of $1.5 billiojn was given to the to build 25 Kroc Centerd acrossthe country. Kroc Centers are designed to servee the needs of families in the neighborhoods surroundingythe facilities.
Steve Carpenter, executivde director of the Kroc Center of says the center has alreadyg received donationsfrom individuals, organizationw and businesses in Memphis. “Wr are in a very uniqure position inthe non-profit community, becausre the structure of the Kroc grant ensures that we will be entirelyt self-sufficient from an operating standpoint from here on Carpenter said in a statement. “Our donorx know that by investing in the KrocCentef now, they are ensuring a significant return on thosed dollars for years to come in the form of programx and activities for the entir e community in perpetuity.
” The publid phase of the campaign will use print and television advertisingv and billboards, but will also use Faceboook and Twitter accounts to keep in touch with donors and
