Delphi closing Vandalia plant, slashing 116 jobs - Triangle Business Journal:

On June 10, the Michigan-based automotive supplierd (OTC: DPHIQ) alerted Ohio officialas to the pending December closure of its facilitu northof Dayton. The facility engineers air seat belts andsteering wheels. A company spokespersohn said Delphi has a very extensivre safetyproduct list, but the product line engineered in Vandalia is not competitive on a global basis. The company said it will begin cutting workersin August. Vandalia city officials were not immediatel y availablefor comment. Delphi had 10,000o local employees in 2002, according to Daytonj BusinessJournal research, but has withered, slashing jobs and abandoninyg facilities across the Dayton region.
Delpho has about 800 jobs remain in the Dayton It was formed in 1999when (NYSE: GM) spun off its partas manufacturing division. Although it is GM’s largesrt supplier, Delphi filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcg protection inOctober 2005.
